The Military Tunnels in Rust are one of the most challenging yet rewarding monuments to explore. With 29 scientists all around the monument, they are not an easy place to explore. Combine the NPC Scientist problem with the players camping tunnels that you'll likely find (and lose your marbles over after you lose 10 kits to them), and you're in for a very tough monument run.

But you have nothing to fear! Just follow this easy guide to get started on your first adventure into the Military Tunnels.

How Much Rad Protection for Military Tunnel Do You Need?

To run Military Tunnels, you will need to have more than 25% Rad Protection. If you are able to get your hands on a Hazmat Suit, you won't need to deal with any radiation damage while running the monument. Here are a few clothing and armor combinations that work well to run the Military Tunnels monument:

Road Sign Combo:

  • Road Sign Jacket: 15%
  • Road Sign Pants: 10%
  • Additional Items to Reach 25%+:
    • Bandana Mask: 6%
    • Boonie Hat: 5%
    • Boots: 5%

Metal Armor Combo:

  • Metal Facemask: 8%
  • Metal Chest Plate: 10%
  • Additional Items to Reach 25%+:
    • Road Sign Kilt: 8%
    • Boots: 5%
    • Bandana Mask: 6%

Leather Set:

  • Leather Gloves: 3%
  • Leather Pants: 8%
  • Leather Boots: 8%
  • Leather Poncho: 10%

We recommend choosing an armor combination with lots of protection (metal combo, or roadsign combo) for this run, since there will be a lot of scientists. If you aren't able to reach this radiation protection, bring a large jug of water. Alongside a nice clothing and armor set, you'll also want to bring the following:

  • A Good Weapon: For this monument, we recommend bringing a semi-automatic rifle (SAR) or a Thompson/Custom at the bare minimum.
  • Weapon Flashlight: The tunnels are dark. Very dark. Without a flashlight, you will be swarmed by scientists before you can even see them.
  • Lots of Ammo: There are a lot of scientists, and they are all trying to kill you. Bring at least 200 rounds, more if you aren't a crack shot.
  • All 3 Keycards: To loot Military Tunnels fully, you will need all three keycards: Green Keycard, Blue Keycard, and Red Keycard.
  • 2 Fuses: Alongside the keycards, you will also need to bring 2 fuses to power the switches for the puzzles.
  • Lots of Heals: At least 8 syringes and 100 cloth to craft bandages when you are low on health.
  • Lots of Instant Health: Pumpkins, corn, and mushrooms will do the trick for this. Try to bring at least 1 stack.
